CUE in advance
March 4, 2008 by professortosa
For the last few days, I have been preparing myself for the CUE conference in Palm Springs. While I’m sure there are better known conferences for ed/tech I’m excited for this conference simply because of my sentimental nature. Last year, I would have considered myself relatively tech savvy until I went to the CUE. Now, as an educator of children no more, I now know enough to realize how much I DON’T know and I owe CUE for the beginning of this realization and transformation. I now understand and see that it’s a big tech world, and although I’m doing quite well with my special assignment, I know I’m still a rookie. Having said this, I would like to offer a few bits of advice for my 30+ colleagues attending the CUE with me. I figure that although I know nothing, having attended before, I know more than some.
- Review the sessions prior to the conference.
- Don’t be intimidated just because you don’t understand the abstract. Many great presentations deal with techy topics, but I’m yet to find a presenter that speaks over the groups head. Sessions are usually quite digestable.
- Leave it the session isn’t to your liking. It’s worse to have a yawning audience than a small group of interested students.
- Avoid the Commercial Sessions unless you are well aware that you may not be able to use their ideas unless you purchase what they’re selling.
- Take notes digitally. By typing your notes you can then add those to a wiki or group resource where the knowledge of the group contributes to all.
- Split from your group. 6 sessions shared is better than one.
- Don’t try to see everything. When you’re done, you’re done. There are no points for sleeping through the day’s final sessions. Also, see #3.
More to follow from the conference. Just a preparatory entry to get you going!
